The inaugural MLA Young Chef Scholarship Program was a first-ever scholarship challenge for culinary schools in Malaysia, run by MLA. The challenge ran over 3 months and required 21 teams of culinary students to submit a marketing program of how to market Australian meat as a competent chef.

The top six shortlisted teams of two young chefs competed in the finale by delivering their marketing program in a power point presentation to a group of industry players as judges and participating students, lecturers and parents. The teams also competed against each other, cooking three course menus featuring Australian beef and lamb for the first and second course.

A bold team came up with a savoury dessert of Aussie beef. Teams were judged on originality, meat cutting and cooking skills, recipe development, presentation and taste. A true Aussie beef and lamb challenge and the champion took home RM5,000 (A$2,000) as well as medals and certificates and a cooking experience with an executive chef.
